      Materials:

      • White paper or sticky notes
      • Markers or colored pencils
      • A picture of a happy family

      Lesson Plan:

      1. Introduction (5 minutes) Welcome, kids! Today we're going to learn about something very important: honoring God and our families. Show them the Bible verse Ephesians 6:1-3, which says: "Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you." Tell them why this verse is so important. "Just like how we want to take care of our bodies and eat healthy food, we need to take care of our families by showing love and respect to Mom and Dad."
      2. The Love of God (5 minutes) Explain that God loves us very much and wants us to love and honor our parents too. Share a personal story or example of how you've seen someone show love and respect to their parent(s). Ask the kids to share if they have ever shown love and respect to their parent(s). Emphasize that God's love is not just for us, but also for our families. "Just like God loves us, He wants us to love and take care of our family members."
      3. Be a Blessing to My Home (10 minutes) Explain what it means to be a blessing to our home. Ask the kids: What are some things we can do to make our home a happy and loving place? How can we show love and respect to Mom and Dad? Provide examples of ways they can be a blessing to their family, such as: + Helping with chores + Being kind to siblings or pets + Listening to Mom and Dad when they need help Encourage them to write down some ideas on the paper or sticky notes.
      4. Conclusion (5 minutes) Gather the kids together and review what we learned today. Ask them to share one thing they can do to be a blessing to their family this week.

Remind them that honoring God and our families is not just something we do, but also something we want to do every day.

      Assessment:

      • Observe children's participation during the activity.
      • Review their written ideas for ways to be a blessing to their family.
      • Ask follow-up questions throughout the lesson to assess their understanding.

      Extension:

      • Create a "Blessing Jar" where kids can write down things they want to do to honor their families and put them in a jar. Read them out loud at the end of the week or month.
      • Plan a fun activity with the family, such as having a game night or going on a picnic, to practice what we learned today.

      Prayer:

      Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for teaching us about honoring God and our families. Help us to remember that You love us very much and want us to show love and respect to Mom and Dad. We pray for the wisdom to be good children and to make our homes happy and loving places.

      Amen!
